Our case worker has clarified the purpose of the meeting for us:
The US Embassy is making sure it's a legitimate placement-meaning they want to make sure Samuel's birth mother has agreed to give her child for adoption. The US Embassy is focusing to control child trafficking. I suspect with some of our younger children; they will require DNA testing to make sure the child and birth mother were truly related and that the child was not stolen. It's sad, but unfortunately this is an ongoing issue in Ghana now; the US is on top of the process and making their final decisions in the best interest of the child.
It doesn't sound as though there will be major issues but I'm certainly thankful Kofi has taken on this extra role with the adoptions. Kofi's Email update at 5:00 a.m. our time:
I will be picking up Samuel's mother from the village and taking her to the embassy this
afternoon at 1:00pm. The visa section did not work yesterday so we could
not attend the interview yesterday.
The consular was very much satisfied with documents and answers to their
questions. I do not foresee any difficulties. They just want to interview
her to give her consent.
I will keep you updated.
